27: Gymnastic activities - unit 5
Audience: Key Stage 2
Year Group: 5
In this unit children create longer sequences to perform for an audience.
They learn a wider range of actions and explore more difficult ways to
perform. In gymnastics as a whole, children use skills and agilities
individually, in combination and in sequence, with the aim of showing as
much control and precision as possible.

Different ways of jumping
Children will be able to perform a variety of jumps.
Children will be able to create a sequence with a clear beginning and
ending. Children will find different starting places on small
apparatus. Children will be able to work safely and co-operatively
in a group.

Children will be able to create a sequence with a clear beginning
and ending and use of different jumps and rolls. Children will
be imaginative in their apparatus layout. Children will
be able to comment on sequences and suggest improvements that could

Children will be able to use a variety of fast, slow, low, high,
narrow and wide shapes, balances and jumps. Children will
be able to devise a sequence on large apparatus. Children will
be able to set out and use large apparatus safely and
co-operatively.

Children will be able to devise sequences using large apparatus, in
pairs and small groups. Children will
know why exercise is good for the body. Children will
know how to set out and use large apparatus safely and
co-operatively.
