3a: Teeth and eating
Audience: Key Stage 2
Year Group: 3
Work in this unit should reinforce and develop children's knowledge of
their personal health and how this relates to diet. They should
learn about how teeth are related to diet and the importance of dental
care. Work also offers opportunities for children to relate
understanding of science to their personal health. This work is likely to
be undertaken in relation to the school's programme for personal, social
and health education.

Plan 1: What do we eat and what do we like to eat?
Children
will be able to identify the kinds of foods they
eat regularly and the kinds of foods they enjoy eating. Children
will recognise that people have preferences with food and drinks.

Children
will be able to produce a record of the outing to
the supermarket or market in writing or drawing. Children
will be able to identify some
foods for 'growth' and some foods for 'activity'

diet suggesting some foods that are needed for growth and some that
enable us to be active. Children
will be able to offer a number of meals that are balanced. Children

of Teeth
An information sheet taking the form of a cloze procedure.
Words are provided at the bottom of the worksheet for children to use to
name the different types of teeth and their roles. Diagrams help
children with their answers.

A simplified Dental Record chart for children to record the
existence, state and growth of their teeth. Useful in developing
an understanding that teeth continue to appear over a long time, as well
as helping children to monitor the health of their teeth and notice the
different types of teeth they have. Great for role play
