General information
Background: Opened in 1877 as an elementary school for children aged three to 12. Like many schools in Aberdeen, Ferryhill was built of the local grey granite, and is three-storeys high. In 1935, the annexe was built to provide workshops for boys about to enter trades when they left school; these are now classrooms and a gym. Outside there are playgrounds for the younger and older children and a large field, which is the home ground for flourishing football teams and summer sports. The school has recently been refurbished and the playground has been decorated and filled with furniture and play items. The school has a modern computer suite, library and general-purpose room in addition to main classrooms. The nurseries have been upgraded and now meet the high standards required by the care commission. The school also provides extra-curricular activities that include football, badminton, volleyball, science and music. The school has strong links with he community. After-school care, until 6pm. Ethos: 'The school aims very high and is seen as welcoming and friendly, with pupils who take a pride in the school and are valued within it.' .
