General information
Background: Opened in 1979, in wooded campus alongside Aboyne Academy and Community Leisure Centre, near centre of village of Aboyne; has 12 classrooms, large GP room, nursery unit, staffroom, offices, and new hall/dining room. Fronted by large tarmac playground, with attractive planned play area designed by parents and children, and partly funded by Scottish Natural Heritage. School endeavours to be vital component of village life; involves children in activities devised on community basis. In addition to variety of woodland and wildlife projects in surrounding land, parent-teacher association provides swimming and skiing training; children encouraged to participate in football, netball and chess tournaments. 'An ethos of enterprise and positive citizenship is encouraged, with age-appropriate activities designed 'to ensure successful, confident learners and responsible learners'. After-school care, until 6pm. Eco-school Silver award (2006).
