General information

Background: Alford Academy was created in 1972, which is situated to the south-west village of Alford. The school was constructed on the present site in 1928. It was a joint primary/ four secondary until 1972. In that year, the primary school was separated and the secondary was upgraded to a six-year secondary school and named Alford Academy. Extensive building took place in the creation of the academy with the four-storey block, games hall, technical block and a new kitchens being the major additions. At the same time, the number of pupils allocated to the Academy was increased by extending the catchment area to approximately 500 square miles. Since then a swimming pool was added in 1984 and the Information technology centre with additional teaching accommodation in 1985.A relocatable two storey teaching block containing six classrooms and two laboratories was added in late 1994. The school aims to develop in pupils a helpful and caring attitude towards others, regardless of race, gender or cultural background.
