General information

Background: Founded as Central Public School in 1878 and received present name in 1946. Science and mathematics are particular strengths; music is also important part, with concert band, brass band, string orchestra, ensembles for woodwind, recorder and guitar, soul band, girls' and boys' singing groups, and staff choir. Recitals at school, on visits to care homes, and at community events. Sport provided by dedicated coordinator; after-school clubs cater for range of interests, from debating to hill-walking. Investor in People status. The school is proud to build on the traditional values and standards of the school in preparing young people for their future lives in an increasingly complex and technological society.' .
