General information
Headteacher: Stuart Humphreys, appointed in September 1999.
Staff: 8 (men 1, women 7).
Background: Founded in 1983; located in a small country house in eight acres of lawn and woodland, five minutes drive away from the Menai Straits Bridge. The pupils have access to the grounds, tennis court and purpose-built play areas. Computer access to internet; interactive whiteboards. Broad and balanced curriculum. Wide range of sports, including football, netball, swimming, hockey, tennis, dance and gymnastics. Pupils raise funds for a number of charities and the school is a member of the Open Gardens Scheme. Before-school care, from 8.15am; after-school care, until 5.30pm. The school aims to provide supportive child centred education and promotes a strong partnership with parents through an active parents teacher association.
Approach to discipline: The school life is underpinned by a set of values based on respect and support for everyone. The ethos of the school is one of care and encouragement. Issues are dealt through discussion and sanctions seldom have to be applied.
Uniform: White polo shirt, blue fleece top, fleece coat, waterproof outer coat, grey trousers, grey skirt and black shoes.
Special needs: The school provides one-to-one support as required by tutors from Bangor University's dyslexia unit.
Inspection: March 2003: 'The standard that pupils attain in Key Stage tests is very good. The results are markedly higher than the national and local comparators particularly the percentage of pupils who gain level 5 in Key Stage 2 tests. The quality of teaching is very good. The provision for pupil?s spiritual, moral, cultural and social development is very good. There is the added dimension of philosophy. Pupil?s behaviour is very good. There are effective procedures to promote all aspects of child protection.'.
