General information
Background: Set on edge of small rural village; also serves coastal village of Auchmithie; many children live on farms or in farm cottages; whole school refurbished in 2003, enabling school, nursery, gymnasium/dining hall, classrooms and offices to be under one roof. Tarmac playground extends onto adjacent public park, school has use of football pitch and excellent all-weather sports court suitable for netball, tennis and five-a-side football; local church hall used by badminton team. School aims, both through ethos and curriculum to 'provide appropriate opportunities for the development of pupils' spiritual, moral, social and cultural values'. Range of extra-curricular activities: badminton, netball and seven-a-side football teams compete in Arbroath Schools' leagues; inter-house sport also played. Other activities include skiing, squash, athletics, musical instrument tuition, and singing. Every two years, older pupils given opportunity to visit an activity centre for a week. Maintains links with local community through appropriate places to visit such as church, post office, farms. Visitors also come into school, which takes part in both local and village events; actively raises funds throughout. Active parent-teacher association contributes to life of school and community, with fundraising and social events.
