Background: Lomond School is positioned in the elegant suburbs of Helensburgh, on the edge of the world famous Lomond National Park. Located within half-an-hour's drive of Glasgow, European city of culture in 1990, this is a magnificent place to raise a family. The main teaching block was opened in 1999 and is equipped to the highest standards. The historic core to the building provide a contrast to the modern facilities which are characteristic of the teaching rooms. St Brides Hall, designed by A N Paterson and opened in 1902, is elegant as a drama and music performance theatre. Larchfield Hall the main refectory, Larchfield Hall also serves as a hall for assemblies and houses the Sixth Form common-room in its sizeable mezzanine. Named after one of the original foundations, it also has some heritage items and students? artwork on its walls.St Brides Library opened in 1923 this attractive room is heavily used for senior private study in addition to being a reference and lending library. It has many original features with the shelving, panelling and furniture all being part of Paterson?s original design. Music room is equipped with computers, keyboards and guitars, this main music classroom complements the sizeable music studio, which is a superb rehearsal and recording space, as well as the individual sound-proofed music practice rooms. Computing classrooms are very generously sized and interactive whiteboards are a standard feature. The Information Systems suite is equipped with new Dell PCs and the provision of computers, including laptops, is widespread throughout all departments. The science laboratories have all been either newly built or have been extensively upgraded recently as is the case with this physics laboratory. Conference room is an intensively used room whose primary function is as a meeting area. It is equipped for video-conferencing which is the medium for the delivery of psychology and Latin tuition. Clarendon exterior built in the 1889s. Clarendon enjoys a variety of playground zones for the enjoyment of the youngsters with formal and informal areas catering for a variety of needs. Burnbrae exterior was opened in 2003 and is home to seventy boys and girls aged between 10 and 18 years old. Foyer, the main entry is a popular meeting and informal recreational area in addition to housing the lifts. Fitness suite is well-equipped gym for the use of senior students who also have two astro-turf pitches to play a variety of sports on ? football, basketball, tennis, hockey. These are located next to the multi-purpose gym. .
