General information
Headteacher: Bernard Canetti .
Background: The Tuition centre was formed in 1989 and has grown rapidly to become an independent Sixth Form College. Having initially established itself as a centre of excellence in mathematics and science, the Tuition centre has also built a reputation for examination success across a broad range of subjects in arts and social sciences at both A level and GCSE. The college moved from Golders Green to new premises in October 1998, converting an attractive period building into a purpose built college, which was specially designed to meet the requirements of a modern educational establishment. Three new purpose-built and spacious laboratories with the most up-to-date equipment allow for a full range of A level and GCSE experimental work to be carried out. There is a well-equipped art room for painting, drawing and sculpture. The college offers art as an extra-curricular option as well as an A level and GCSE subject. In the library there is a range of academic reference books and text books as well as a small lending library which includes audio and video cassettes. The college has a large and newly refurbished common in which students can relax. There is well-equipped kitchen area for preparing snacks and a vending machine for drinks.
Inspection: November 2005: 'Brampton is a very effective college which is well regarded by both students and their parents. It employs a range of carefully considered strategies to support students in achieving their maximum academic performance. The college leadership sets clear goals for providing a supportive learning ethos and management structures are effective in ensuring their delivery. The curriculum is exceptionally well-matched to students? needs and the teaching is of high quality. Most students appreciate and respect the high quality of the learning environment provided by the college, the individual support that they receive and the generally harmonious atmosphere. The good quality of monitoring and the effective individual support provided through the personal tutor system plays an important part in helping students at all levels, including those of compulsory school age, to develop confidence and subsequently to make good progress.'
Boys' age range: 15 to 19.
