General information

Background: Built in 1913 Silkstone remains the only school in the village, and is traditional in layout. There is a central hall around which there are the classrooms. The school is in a rural setting, although the village is becoming part of an increasing commuter area. There are several extra-curricular schemes run, providing pupils with the opportunity to practise their abilities at football, netball and the recorder. The children are also encouraged to take part in charity fundraising, each year nominating an organisation with links to children. Highlights of the school, calendar are the Christmas Concert and Harvest Festival, both of which are open to the local community, and the children also perform at the local Methodist and Parish Churches. Each child is encouraged to develop as an individual and feel part of a strongly caring and supportive community.
