General information

Background: Broadlands is a fully comprehensive, maintained co-educational school with its own sixth form college (B6), on site. As a Specialist Science and Engineering School, Broadlands is at an exciting stage in its development as a leading provider of teaching and learning opportunities for both students and the local community. In 2003/4, the refurbishment of the school?s eight science laboratories was completed, together with the technology suite. In addition, a new high-technology science and engineering room, the Hub, was built. The school?s main hall is the focus of many community activities and has state of the art lighting and sound systems. The school has made very significant investment in ICT, with dedicated 30-workstation ICT classrooms and a range of computers situated throughout the school. There are superb physical education facilities with a sports hall, gymnasium, weights room, extensive playing fields and three outside hard court playing areas. The school buildings have been adapted for disabled wheelchair access, through installing ramps and widening corridors, thereby improving access for disabled students. The school offers a wide range of extra-curricular activities. These include sports, music, ICT, art, drama, dance, photography, science, environment, orchestra, wind band, choir, guitar club and a whole host of others. In addition visits to places of interest and foreign visits are also arranged. The school aims to provide a creative and exciting yet supportive climate within which the students are able to study and learn in line with their own individual aims and expectations.
