General information
Background: Opened in 1958 as a small rural secondary school, Chew Valley has since developed a sixth form and become fully comprehensive. It stands on a 30-acre site eight miles south of Bristol in open countryside overlooking Chew Valley Lake. The school has a deserved reputation for sport and outdoor education, opening a performance centre for elite athletics in September 2006. Excellent examination results and all round achievement led to the school being named in HMI Chief Inspector of school, list of very good and excellent schools in December 2005. The school achieved specialist school status in Performing Arts. It holds an activities week for year?s seven to nine and organises work experience for years 10 and 12. There are exchange visits with France, Germany and Spain in addition to a residential course for all pupils in year seven. Chew Valley School has a strong ethos of care and personal growth through a broad and balanced curriculum tempered by an excellent programme of extra-curricular activity and opportunity. The school is distinctive because of its inclusive native.
