General information

Background: St Mary's is a well established school with traditional values, providing a sound education within a well ordered environment. The School was founded in 1881 to serve the children of St Mary's Parish and now also includes children living in the parish of the Good Shepherd, Batheaston. The School is situated on the northern outskirts of Bath, near the village of Weston and adjacent to beautiful open countryside.The School is voluntary aided, and provides education for children of both sexes in the primary age range, ie four to 11 years.The main school building is modern and well planned and offers excellent facilities comprising seven classrooms, library and a large hall. The school playground area consists of a hard play surface and a grassed area. Children in reception and Year 1 play together in the infant playground. Another larger playground area is used by the junior children. Sports activities take place on the recreation field directly opposite the School. At St Mary's school, guided by the mission statement, the curriculum is delivered in a meaningful context. It reflects the requirements of the national curriculum and is underpinned by the current teachings and practices of the Catholic Church. The school believes that everyone is a child of God. As a Christian community it tries to live like Jesus by: being kind, and helping each other; using its gifts to the very best of its ability; celebrating God in everyone and everything. The statement sets out the aims of St Mary's school as it engages in this task.
