General information

Headteacher: James Graham-Brown, appointed in 2000.

Staff: 85 (men 14, women 71).

Background: This year?s A-level results have nudged this young school down the table slightly. However, it remains among the highest 200 schools of our league, as it has for all but two of the last six years since its foundation. Results are impressive, with nearly a third of the year group earning three straight A grades at A-level, one in 10 achieving four A grades or better, as well as a top five exam board national award in chemistry. This year?s GCSE results were the best ever, with four out of five national awards for French going to RHS girls, as well as distinctions in Spanish, German, Italian, history and PE. Royal High is the only school with boarding provision within the Girls? Day School Trust and is proud of its record for progression to higher education, particularly in medicine and related professions. Facilities include a modern sports hall, music centre, numerous IT suites and science laboratories. The boarding house has been refurbished recently and, after consultation with the girls, it now includes spacious cooking and recreational areas. Subjects are taught in mixed ability sets, apart from maths, and eleven subjects are taken at GCSE with religious studies and IT taken as short courses equivalent to half a GCSE. The sixth-form curriculum spans 26 subjects, including business studies, Chinese for native speakers, classical civilisation and theatre studies. Pupils who have learning disabilities are catered for both within the classroom and outside as necessary.
