General information

Background: Wellsway was established in 1971, when Keynsham Grammar and Wellsway Secondary Modern were amalgamated and is located in a strikingly spacious campus with open, green views. An extensive building programme over the last eight years has resulted in a new art block, drama studio, science laboratories, sixth form areas, new languages and technology rooms, Astroturf pitch and staff and plans for a community sports centre have received planning permission. Extra-curricular activities include sport, music and drama and pupils take part in the annual Wellsway Festival. Pupils have represented the district, county, region or country in a variety of sports and the school has facilities for most team games. Concerts and plays are a regular feature of school life. Wellsway has extensive links with both the local community and Europe. Its careers and work-experience programmes benefit from the good relations established with businesses in the immediate area and in Bath and Bristol, while students are encouraged to participate in charity events. Exchange programmes with France and Germany are well developed and students have the opportunity to participate in educational visits in the United Kingdom and abroad. The school has developed close working relationships with partner primary schools and with other local secondary schools, and extensive collaborative work is undertaken. The school aims to enable every child to reach his or her potential in a caring and supportive environment. .
