General information

Background: Bedford Preparatory School is an integral part of Bedford School, which was founded in 1552 and has a governing body responsible for the whole school.The Prep School is situated in attractive grounds and occupies a compact site around a central artificial grass surface, and also adjoins the Upper School. The specialist subject rooms, particularly in Wells? building, are bright and spacious. The geography room is especially attractive. Provision for music is very good. The science laboratories, the ICT suite and the DT centre also have very good facilities. Libraries are well sited relative to the classrooms. Grass pitches are very well managed and prepared. The artificial grass pitch at the centre of the school has deteriorated, and is due for renewal. .

Inspection: November 2004: 'Bedford Preparatory School provides a good, broad, balanced education, and prepares pupils well for the upper school. Pupils are very ready to respond in lessons and achieve good academic standards. The pastoral care and attention to the pupils? welfare are very good. The school benefits from sharing a number of high quality facilities with the Upper School in an attractive setting. The senior management of the school is good, but most heads of subject need to develop further their leadership roles. Parents are very pleased with the school.'
