General information

Background: The school opened in 1964 and is situated in extensive grounds on the northern edge of the award-winning village of Riseley. In recent years it has benefited from 'significant upgrading' to the buildings including a new computer suite, second science laboratory and refurbishment of workshops for design technology. Most recently, two new music practice rooms have been added. A full National Curriculum is taught together with French from Year 5. Pupils follow a semi-specialist timetable using 'excellent facilities and skilled teaching staff'. In recognition of its 'outstanding' sports programme it was recently awarded a Sports Mark. More than 30% of pupils learn at least one musical instrument. There is an orchestra, a flute ensemble of 30, a group of strings, clarinet and brass. Additional lessons are provided in guitar, drums, keyboard and saxophone. There is an 'excellent and wide' range of extra-curricular activities. Links with the local communiy are also 'excellent' and the school supports at least three charities each year. 'The school is now highly regarded in and beyond its locailty and is consistently over-subscribed.' .
