General information

Headteacher: Jean Marsland, appointed in January 2000.

Staff: 28 (men 3, women 25).

Background: Founded over a hundred years ago, St Andrew's School educates girls from aged 3 to 16 years and boys from 3 to 8 years. There are currently over 300 pupils on roll, including those in the Montessori Nursery. The Senior School offers a broad curriculum including technology, music, drama, and textiles, alongside the core subjects. Success at Key Stage 3 and GCSE ensures that girls can move on from St Andrew's to a wide variety of Sixth Form Courses. The School aims to achieve the best from its pupils and provide them with a positive outlook and an optimistic vision of their future.

Approach to discipline: Pupils are encouraged to correct unacceptable behaviour.

Uniform: Black watch tartan skirts, grey trousers, navy jumpers and coats, white shirts. Uniform is strictly enforced.

Homework: Average 11-year-old, 07 hours a week; 14-year-old, 12 hours; 16-year-old, 14 hours.

Vocational qualifications: Computer Literacy and Information Technology (CLAIT).

Inspection: May 2000: ?St Andrew's School provides a happy and safe environment in which pupils achieve high standards in relation to their own capabilities. Pupils leave the school well equipped for the next stage of their education. At Key Stages 1 and 2 standards are above expectation in English and mathematics. They are well above in science at Key Stage 1 and art at Key Stage 2. The quality of learning and behaviour are very good. Attendance and punctuality are also very good.?.
