General information

Background: Bloomfield Collegiate School originated at the beginning of 20th century as a small private school for girls and boys on Beersbridge Road in Belfast. After a number of moves around East Belfast it settled into new buildings on the present site in Astoria Gardens in 1962, as a grammar school for girls. The Preparatory school was added in 1968. The school has continued to evolve, and the impact of new subjects, new technology and new methods of teaching and learning has been considerable. A further building and refurbishment programme was completed in 1995, providing new, purpose-built, accommodation for art, music, technology, careers guidance and computing, together with additional provision for science, modern languages and the sixth form. The most recent phase of development was completed in 1997 with the provision of a sports hall and three all-weather tennis courts. Before-school care, from 8am; after-school care, until 5pm. Over-subscribed, with nearly two applications per place. Ethos: 'We pride ourselves on being a community in which each individual is recognised and valued. We strive for a friendly atmosphere within a culture of strong pastoral care and a positive working environment. We value music, sport, drama and extra-curricular activities. We expect our pupils to develop a social responsibility and a respect for others and the environment.' .
