General information

Background: Barnehurst Junior (Foundation) School opened in 1927, and originally catered for both infant and junior age children. It was built to provide a neighbourhood school for the children of people who lived in the surrounding estate. The school is on one floor with only the deputy head teacher's room and a small group teaching room on the second storey. The main block consists of six classrooms, one of which is partitioned to provide cloakroom space for two classes. Next to the hall is a library. There is a range of tuned and untuned percussion instruments and children are also given the opportunity to make their own instruments or to use their own bodies or everybody objects to create sound. Children are given opportunities to participate in a variety of clubs and activities. Teams and activities change annually but may include choir, recorders, football, rugby, chess club, orchestra and cross-stitch club. All the children are encouraged to initiate fund-raising events for charity in an organised and approved way.
