General information

Background: Opened in 1955, set in pleasant grounds taken from Danson Park, situated in suburban southeast London, within easy access of capital and coast. Buildings added in 1972, 1995 and 2004; most recent additions include new library, art rooms, science and mathematics suites, additional information technology facilities, and sports hall. Sixth-form centre, built by parents' association, opened in 1982; other specialist facilities include technology, performing arts and music areas. In addition to school's gymnasium, PE department uses nearby sports hall and swimming pool. Has impressive record of achievement; proud of contribution it has made to education of young people in local area. Follows broad grammar-school curriculum, with International Baccalaureate and A-levels in sixth form. Languages, science, mathematics and art are particular strengths; extensive curriculum enrichment programme in sport and cultural activities. Specialist language college status from 2002. Before-school breakfast club, from 7.45am; after-school homework club, until 4.30pm. Over-subscribed, with six applications per place.
