General information

Background: Built in 1955, Gravel Hill Primary School is close to the centre of Bexleyheath and has a large catchment area. It has a field and nature area which the children maintain. Gravel Hill is proud of its status as winners and finalists of football and cricket borough competitions for the last three years. It operates the 'Open Book' scheme for reading improvement in conjunction with McDonald's Bexleyheath, which was 'highly commended' at the Primary Education Business Partnership Awards. Every two years there is a school journey to the Isle of Wight and the school also runs clubs such as football, netball, cricket and recorder. Recently the school established a link with a French primary school, and it maintains close links with Woolwich Building Society. Gravel Hill also believes in developing a partnership with parents and the annual parental survey takes heed of their views. Recently, the school participated in the Local Agenda 21 activities, planting trees and re-developing the ecology area.
