General information

Background: Welling School was founded in 1923. It continues to attract large numbers of applications from those living in the local area. The school became a Specialist Art College in September 2003 and a Training school in 2003. Its students study all of the national curriculum subjects and take a wide range of examination courses. The school has a science technology centre, a modern library, large playing fields, a sports hall and a magnificent arts centre. In partnership with Bexley Council and the investors in the community consortium, the school will be refurbished and rebuilt over the next two years to provide accommodation in landscaped grounds. A wide range of extra-curricular activities include gymnastics, dance, trampolining, rugby, netball, hockey, cricket, football, athletics, badminton, table tennis, rounder and tennis. Students follow a GCSE physical education course as an option at Key Stage 4. A Community Sports Leadership Award course followed by Year 12 students produces excellent results on a regular basis. The school supports at least one charity each year, sponsors and organises a Christmas party for senior citizens and participates in special charity events. All sixth form courses include opportunities for community service. The school wishes to expand children's cultural and recreational interests, develop further their sense of responsibility, and help them to become happy, friendly, self-disciplined young people with concern for the needs of others by providing a firm moral and disciplinary framework within a caring environment.
