General information

Background: Founded in 1927, the school occupies a 23-acre site at the edge of the Bournville Village Trust Estate. Its sixth form is run jointly with the neighbouring boys' school, Kings Norton Boys'. Kings Norton Girls' buildings reflect its 1920s heritage, but have been complemented by extensive refurbishment and a building programme which has included new science laboratories, a drama studio, textiles suite, humanities block, refurbished library and three ICT suites with 'leading edge equipment'. A wide ranging curriculum is offered to all students, including the sixth form, and also provides opportunities for enrichment. More than 20 extra-curricular activities range from kick boxing to the Duke of Edinburgh award and the school is very successful both locally and regionally in netball and athletics. The school holds the Sportsmark Award for recognition of its achievements in physical education. Links with the local community are important. For example, students run a luncheon club for local senior citizens, and organise charity events throughout the year. The school is heavily oversubscribed, receiving approximately four applications for every place. The school has been a specialist language college since 2001 and was awarded sports college status in 2006. 'The school aims to provide high quality education by encouraging students to excel. It provides a stimulating environment conducive to effective teaching and learning based on mutual respect between students and teachers. It aims to inspire students to develop as individuals and as responsible members of the community, able to meet the challenges of life beyond school'.
