Background: In 1999 Windsmoor House School (Lower School site) on East Park Road, Blackburn was refurbished. A small group of staff were appointed under the leadership of the HeadteacherDue to the early success of the school demand for places increased. This led to an expansion of pupil numbers, staff and facilities. In 2002 the Witton Bank site was opened and a small group of the older pupils graduated to the Upper School.Windsmoor House School enables all pupils access to a broad and balanced education through the entire range of core and foundation subjects as dictated by National Curriculum policies, guidelines and proceduresThe school also recognises that appropriate teaching systems need to be put into effect to support pupils with specific learning difficulties in all subject areas through the special needs co-ordinator who can support not only pupils but staff in all issues arising from educational difficulties and failure to learn through accepted norms and procedure. One of Windsmoor House?s priorities is to develop and improve literacy and numeracy skills of all pupils. This is of particular importance to pupils who experience learning difficulties as failure to successfully acquire literacy skills has been found to have a causal link with behavioural and emotional difficulties and in order to minimise this negative aspect of a pupil?s personal profile, success in academic areas needs to encouraged and developed. Therefore, the special needs of individual pupils require identification as quickly as possible upon entry into the school in order that help can be provided. .
