General information

Background: Originally founded in 1934 as a secondary/primary, the school is housed in a two-storey red brick building in the diocese of Lancaster and serves the parishes of St John Vianney and St Monica's in Blackpool. The area it serves is a mixture of residential, council and business properties. Numbers have risen steadily over the last seven years and, to cope with the increase, the school opened a new nursery department in September 2000 and has recently undergone a number of improvements. The school offers a 'broad and balanced' curriculum based on the core subjects of the national curriculum. Extra-curricular activities include netball, athletics, football, choir, recorder groups and prayer group. Although the school lacks playing fields of any size around the school buildings, the children do not miss out on sporting activites. Nearby Stanley Park is used as a playing field on a Wednesday afternoon and older children use the Lido Baths in the summer term to go swimming. There is also an after school club until and 5.30pm. The 'active' parent-teacher association liases very closely with the school and the Parish, holds 'regular' meetings and organises many social and fund raising events throughout the year. The school has 'close links' with the local community and parish, and in 1999 was proud to be awarded the Investors in People Award.
