General information

Headteacher: Anne Ainsworth, appointed in September 2003.

Staff: 10 (men 3, women 7).

Motto: "Finis coronat opus" ("The end crowns the work.").

Background: Lord's College is a small college established in 1906. Alongside the national curriculum the school covers business studies, law, IT, PE, geography, history and art. It also offers extra-curricular mathematics and English workshops and homework clubs. The school is set in a Victorian-style double-fronted building but inside has the most up-to-date technology.

Streaming/setting: No.

Approach to discipline: Very strict discipline. It operates a high level of discipline which includes structure and Bumpa Awards.

Uniform: Girls: Green skirt, shirt, school tie, school jumper, black shoes, no heels. Boys: Black pants, shirt, school tie, school jumper, black shoes.

Homework: Average 11-year-old, 5 hours a week; 14-year-old, 8 hours; 16-year-old, 10 hours.

Vocational qualifications: GCSE only.

Special needs: Due to small class sizes any pupil with special needs gets the specific attention they request.

Inspection: June 2005: 'Lord's Independent School provides a good quality of education in a small and caring family environment where pupils feel safe and happy. The curriculum is generally broad and balanced and offers a suitable range of courses at GCSE for a school of its size. The quality of teaching is good and enables the pupils to achieve well above average national standards and to make good progress. The pupils are very well behaved. Relationships between teachers and pupils are extremely good and are based on mutual respect. The teachers are well qualified and are effectively deployed to ensure the welfare of the pupils.'
