General information

Background: Originally founded in 1806, the school moved to its current site in 1884. It is located in Bradshaw, an extended village with a predominance of private housing in addition to council property on the outskirts. The current school was built in 1966 and has seven classrooms, a hall, library, technology room, extended corridor resource area and internal quad. There are 'extensive, if poorly drained' playing fields and 'adequate' hard surface play areas. The church works in 'close proximity' with the school which acts as a community centre for cubs, brownies, mothers union and other church bodies. St Maxentius offers a 'broad and balanced' curriculum based on the core subjects of the national curriculum. A 'wide range' of extra-curricular activities are offered including sports, music, art and libraries. School teams have won competitions in football, netball, cross country, swimming, cricket and rounders in the past few years. The school encourages pupils to raise funds for charities, and these are always linked to those supported by the church. Pupils are encouraged to set up mini-projects for the charity of their choice. There is a 'strong, supportive' parent-teacher association which organises social and fund raising events throughout the year.
