Background: The school is at the centre of a large council estate with social deprivation as an issue. The buildings are in a reasonable condition and the grounds are tended. The school is 'well resourced' with one computer for every four students, 'good' staffing, a broad curriculum and some 'exceptional' subject performances. The school is labelled as 'facing challenging circumstances' beacuse the 5+ A-C GCSE rate droped below 25%. It is a low-ability school with 50% of pupils being on the special needs register. The school has received the Sportsmark award and other awards for staffing achievements, and there are 'good' extra-curricular activities.
