Background: Walkerburn is a small village in the Scottish Borders in the Tweed valley. It sits on the A72 some eight miles from Peebles and 10 miles from Galashiels. It was the first custom built village in Scotland. It was erected around the Tweeddale Mill (built in 1855) to house workers who had previously travelled from Peebles or Galashiels. The school was built in 1862 as the population of the village grew- reaching a peak of 1288 in 1891. The school aims to provide a broad and balanced curriculum. A wide range of extra-curricular activities are offered at lunchtime and after-school. The school aims to provide a safe and pleasant environment for effective learning.
