General information

Background: The school was founded in 1918 to provide secondary education for girls in Bournemouth; moved to current site in parkland setting to northeast of town in 1960. New science facilities in 1994; new 12-classroom teaching block in September 1999; further additions in January 2000; new performing arts centre in 2006. Well-equipped library, with 30,000 books and computer-based catalogue system; extensive careers and information technology facilities. All girls are encouraged to take advantage of the many extra-curricular activities available, including Amnesty International, Christian Union, debating society, drama club, green club, mathematics club, quiz club, science club, and technology group. Strong tradition of music: large variety of choral and instrumental groups, ensembles and orchestras meet at lunchtime and after-school. Wide range of sportiung activities, with individuals and teams competing at county, national, and international level; 2006 national trampolining champions. Specialist humanities college status. Before-school care, from 7.45am; after-school care, until 5.30pm. Over-subscribed, with nearly three applications per place. DfES achievement award (2000, 2001).
