General information

Headteacher: Chrisine Dipple, appointed in 1991.

Background: Talbot Heath School has been a Church of England foundation since 1886. However, today a multi-faith chaplaincy team fosters understanding between pupils of all faiths. Facilities are modern. The art department, for example, is based in purpose-built studios with computers, a kiln and a superbly equipped darkroom. All girls can study at least two European languages to GCSE and A-level. The curriculum places a strong emphasis on oral fluency and written accuracy while opening the girls' eyes to cultural differences. Professional actors run workshops in school and frequent theatre visits are organised for girls of all ages. Pupils can prepare for Lamda exams. Every autumn the school stages a play or a musical, and in the spring term hosts its own drama festival. The school has a thriving local and national reputation for music, taught in the music school opened in 1991. The concert hall doubles as an eight-track recording studio and there are nine instrumental teaching/practice rooms. Pupils of all ages follow a sport and fitness programme. Sports studies is offered at A-level and a well-equipped sports hall caters for aerobics, badminton, dance, gymnastics, trampolining and volleyball. Teams regularly succeed at county, regional and national level in many sports. Talbot Heath has recently been awarded the Investor in Careers Award. In the upper sixth, girls study three or four subjects and the timetable allows many combinations.
