General information

Background: The schools in Binfield have a long history. In 1853 All Saints Church founded a school close to its church building for the education of the children of the parish. In 1906 St Mark's Church followed suit and St Mark's Primary School was founded. Until the early 1980's the schools worked together harmoniously for the good of the children in Binfield. At this time plans for a phased development of North Bracknell prompted the Education Authority to reconsider the schools in the area. It became clear that the existing schools of St Mark's and All Saints were too small to cope with the increased number of children. The present Binfield CofE (Controlled) Primary School was built and opened in 1987 with the pupils from the two original primary schools on roll. Since that time the number of children on roll has increased to its present size of just under four hundred children in what is now a two-form entry primary school. All concerned with the school are 'justifiably' proud of its 'caring atmosphere, well-kept modern buildings and high academic expectations and standards'. In addition the school 'regularly and successfully' takes part in the Zeneca Science Competition and the Mars Environmental Competition. Book week and green week are regular features in the life of the school and are organised on a bi-annual basis. Community links are 'strong' and pupils are encouraged to raise funds for charity. Last year they supported the MacMillan Trust, a local children's hospice and a school in Angolia.
