General information
Headteacher: James Barnes.
Staff: 44 (men 21, women 23).
Background: Lambrook Haileybury is the product of a hugely successful merger in 1997. It is situated on what was originally the Lambrook site, which dates back to 1860. Set in 40 acres of 'beautiful' grounds the school is 'conveniently located' two miles from Ascot, six miles from Windsor, 30 minutes from Heathrow and close to the M3, M4 and M40 motorways. It has a modern science and IT centre, sports hall, swimming pool, golf course, squash court, tennis courts, 'extensive' playing fields and a 'well-equipped' language laboratory. Extra-curricular activities form an important part of school life. It has 'an excellent' record of success with Common Entrance examinations to the senior schools of pupils' choice.
Approach to discipline: 'Discipline, without being repressive, is firm. There is a published list of rules based on common sense and respect. Conduct merit system is in place (no negative award). Centralised misdemeanour book for all staff to assess behaviour across the board.'
Uniform: Navy skirt (girls), blue cords (boys), blue v-necked sweater, royal blue polo-shirt (summer), tattershall shirt (winter), school tie, navy blazer. Uniform regulations are enforced 'totally'.
Special needs: The school has a special learning unit to support pupils with mild learning difficulties associated with dyslexia.
Inspection: April 2006: 'Lambrook Haileybury meets its aims and aspirations well. The governors and headmaster are leading the school purposefully to ensure that pupils achieve high standards academically and in a range of sporting and creative activities, in a caring, nurturing and happy community. The school places priority on academic excellence and many of its pupils achieve scholarships to prestigious schools. In addition, it also provides outstanding support for those of its pupils with learning difficulties, so that all its pupils are helped to fulfil their potential. It does indeed provide a happy balance between childhood and education and builds self discipline well. Thoughtfulness, good manners and respect are strong, carefully nurtured values. Parents are pleased with the education provided. Pupils like their school. Boarders enjoy school life and boarding quality is high. The well-kept grounds and accommodation in a stunning and spacious setting encourage consistently good behaviour. The pupils? attitudes are highly conducive to learning and their relationships with each other and with their teachers are mutually respectful yet convivial. The chair of governors and the headmaster have made good progress since the last inspection. Academic standards have improved throughout the school. Accommodation for teaching and boarding has improved, as exemplified by the excellent accommodation for the Pre-Prep. Medium-term planning has improved. Adequate job descriptions are not yet provided for middle and senior management. Appraisal is still at an early stage and together with inconsistency in assessment, a marking policy which fails to ensure good practice across all subjects and some short-term planning weakness, this means that systematic monitoring of teaching and learning is not effective. The main library, though improved and used well by pupils so no longer a cause for concern, is still challenging in its location, though the school is now making best use of this thoroughfare, and has provided a separate high-quality resource for the youngest pupils in the new Pre-Prep building. This is a significant improvement. The school meets all the regulatory requirements.'
