General information

Background: Founded in 1709 by Lord Ranelagh at Cranbourne, the school moved to its current site, in a secluded six acres close to the centre of Bracknell, in 1907 and has been a voluntary-aided Church of England school in the Diocese of Oxford since 1953. The catchment area straddles three unitary authorities and covers the deaneries of Bracknell and Sonning. Although the original building dates from 1908, substantial additions were made in 1980 and 1997: music block, business centre, ICT suites; purpose-built sports hall opened in 2004; school has raised £6 million for significant extensions, including innovative arts-technology centre. Wide range of additional activities: able and talented summer schools, quality arts provision (orchestras, choirs, productions, extensive visits programme), including World Challenge, enterprise activities, Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme. It has combined Specialist Visual Arts College and Business and Enterprise College Status; Beacon status (2005); Artsmark; Artsmark Silver (2005) and Investor in People status. 'The school aims to provide a supportive, stimulating and secure environment where high standards of learning and personal responsibility are expected and achieved, and where every member of the school community is respected and valued.' .
