General information

Background: Situated on the southern outskirts of Bracknell, Wooden Hill Primary was opened in 1977 and was substantially extended in 1990. An all-weather playing surface was completed in 1991 with modifications to include a nursery unit on the site in 1993. The teaching areas are open-plan with adjacent quiet rooms and screened to provide distinct class areas. Teaching facilities include an IT suite with networked computers, a home economics room, a pottery room with kiln and a studio for music and drama. Children benefit from these as teaching aids and for participating in extra-curricular activities such as the orchestra and choir. The choir has sung in the Albert Hall as part of the Schools Prom. Sports are made available to all pupils and teams are not always selected purely on the basis of top ability. The curriculum is enhanced by day visits and residential trips aimed to complement the learning of specific topics or skills. The school has 'strong' links with the feeder nurseries and the linked secondary schools in the area, inlcuding a number of 'exciting' activities to ensure a smooth transition to the next stage of schooling. The relationship between school and parents is strengthened by the 'very active' Home School Association and Governing Body whose 'outstanding teamwork' in supporting the school resulted in them winning the Berkshire County Council Home School Partnership Award.
