General information

Background: Opened in 1990 as the first specialist school in Yorshire, Dixons remained the only city technology college in the county until September 2005, when it became a city academy. The college occupies a seven-and-a-half-acre site and is entirely purpose-built. More than 75 per cent of pupils stay on to the sixth form. Around 250 student recieve instrumental tuition. Dixons City Academy is also a major centre for teacher training and has established links with a range of universities. Former headteacher John Lewis received a knighthood in the Queen's 2004 birthday honours list for services to education.
