General information

Background: Leopold Primary School is housed in an Edwardian red-brick building. It has three playgrounds with gardens, a pond, benches, and climbing frames. French is taught to all classes, and musical tuition is offered in steel pans, violin, guitar, piano, recorder, and flute. All pupils at Key Stage 2 attend a full year of swimming lessons; specialist sports coaches visit two days a week to teach football, gymnastics, tennis, netball and cricket. Pupils assessed as gifted and talented are offered free after-school specialist physical education coaches, where appropriate; additional French tuition for pupils gifted in language. Pupils are given the opportunity for educational visits to museums, local places of interest, and a residential field trip. Well-known school choir. There is an after-school club where children can enjoy sports, games, craft activities, cookery and gardening. Weekly after-school Spanish club; ballet lessons twice a week. Linked to South African school, whose headteacher has visited; pupils exchange gifts and correspondence. Fundraising includes £235 for Water Aid; pupils also sponsored parent who ran in London Marathon. Over-subscribed, with two applications per place. Basic Skills Quality Mark; Investor in People status (2006).
