General information

Background: Founded in 1938; housed in 1930s building with quadrangle and tower, together with more recent buildings, in grounds with large playing fields. Facilities include a modern, well-stocked learning resource centre, art and drama studios, modern science laboratories, a careers library, computer suites, performance and presentation technology in a renovated school hall, 150-station NT network, technology suite with CAD/CAM, electronics, graphics, and food technology. The school is a city learning centre for Brent's 'Excellence in Cities' partnership is planned. It teaches the national curriculum, with drama and Latin available at Key Stage 3. PE and sociology are available at GCSE, and 20 A-levels are offered in the Sixth Form. Extra-curricular activities have been recognised by Education Extra, the Healthy Schools initiative and Sportsmark awards. The school has choirs, an orchestra, drama, dance and musical productions. There are curriculum links with the Royal National and Tricycle Theatres, poets visit the school, there are writers' workshops, debating and film societies, artists in residence, school trips, journeys abroad, homework clubs, links with local businesses, fundraising for charity, a Saturday-morning music academy, and literacy and gifted-and-talented summer schools. Specialist science college status. Over-subscribed, with seven applications per place. Sportsmark; Investor in People status; DfES achievement award; Leading Edge status.
