General information

Headteacher: D Lawson, appointed in September 1987.

Staff: 10 (men 1, women 9).

Background: Cleve House School was established in its present home in 1948; situated in southeast suburban area of Bristol; comprises two large Victorian houses and newly-completed hall at rear of main playground. During last 15 years, more than 90 per cent of children have gained places at independent secondary schools of their choice. Regular PE lessons; swimming every week. Weekly games for older children: football, netball, cricket, rounders and athletics. 'Strong tradition' of developing appreciation of music; a quarter of Year 5 pupils receive individual instrumental tuition. Annual charity fundraising event. .

Approach to discipline: 'The fostering of an atmosphere of mutual respect and good manners, developing self-discipline, responsibility, initiative, motivation and social skills.'

Uniform: Boys: Grey blazer with badge and blue trim, grey shirt, grey trousers, royal-blue pullover.Girls: Grey blazer with badge and blue trim, grey tunic/skirt or white/blue check dress in summer, white/blue check blouse, royal-blue cardigan. 'Compulsory.'

Special needs: Full-time specialist teacher; special needs suite.

Inspection: October 2005: 'Cleve House School is a good school where pupils are well taught and the curriculum meets their needs. The staff know all the pupils very well and care for them in a firm but kind manner. The pupil?s behaviour is exemplary; they know what is expected of them, comply with the rules willingly and apply themselves industriously to their work. The staff work very effectively together to create a purposeful atmosphere in which the contributions of all are valued. There is strong emphasis on the personal development of the pupils.'

Before-school care: from 07.45.

After-school care: until 17.30.
