General information

Background: Henbury School is a purpose-built 11-18 fully comprehensive school. The school was completed in 1955 and opened to pupils in January 1956 as one of the first purpose-built comprehensives in the country. After 50 years it is about to move into completely new building as a result of PFI contract. It is being situated on a large and attractive site on the northwest outskirts of the city of Bristol near the Blaise Castle Estate. The site is being further developed to include community sports facilities. There will be 25 metre, six lane pool, exercise/fitness suite and dance studio attached to the full sized sports hall, as well as an ?all-weather? pitch and multi-games area. The sports facilities include two gymnasia, basketball and tennis courts, extensive playing fields and an indoor heated swimming pool. The school has a wide range of activities organised for students at lunchtimes, after school and in the school holidays. There are international visits to Germany, France, Netherlands and Spain, as well as day excursions and adventure holidays. Recently the school has established links with schools in Mozambique, Uganda, Iceland and India; all part of widening the students; knowledge and understanding the world around them. The school has an excellent library, which has a wide range of resources for all students and is managed by a full time, qualified librarian and part-time assistant. The school has achieved the following awards: Investors in People in 2002, Schools Excellence in Cities and International School Status in October 2004. The school aims for children to be happy, to enjoy learning and to achieve their very best.
