General information
Headteacher: Miss K A Greenwood.
Background: Founded in 1933 in the main school building with just 11-day pupils, Baston School grew to accommodate around 100 pupils prior to the Second World War. During the war the school was evacuated, first to Hope Cove in Devon and then to Galhampton in Somerset. Baston returned to its present location in 1945 and started to take boarders, so that pupils who had joined the school during its stay in the West Country could continue their education at Baston. The pre-junior department, science laboratories and home economics kitchen are situated at the western end of the site. The main school houses the subject rooms, together with the school hall, fully equipped as a gymnasium. Senior and junior school libraries, the computer room, art and textile rooms and a pottery centre are also located there. .
Uniform: All girls from Pre-Junior School through to Year 11 wear school uniform.
Inspection: October 2000: It is a small family school, with a warm, friendly and caring ethos. The staff and pupils as a whole relate well together. The small number of pupils in each year group enables the staff to know the pupils well and to give them a considerable amount of individual attention. This is one of the attractions of the school in the eyes of the parents, many of whom expressed their appreciation of the progress made by their daughters.
Girls' age range: 2 to 16.
