General information

Background: Darrick Wood Junior School is set in wooded surroundings. There is a large playing field and two playgrounds. An extension to the building, completed at the end of the summer term 1999, provided three extra classrooms and a fully equipped air conditioned computer suite. The additional buildings also include a meeting room, an information centre and several rooms for small group teaching. A second hall space for music, drama and dance was completed in the spring term 2001. Its modern accommodation includes 12 spacious classrooms, and a large hall fully equipped for physical education. The shopping centre at Locksbottom is within 10 minutes walking distance of the school. Orpington and Bromley are within easy access by public transport. There is also a wide range of lunchtime and after-school clubs. These include, a large singing club, recorders, steel band, football for Year 5 and 6, girls' football, hockey, swimming, dance, athletics, tennis, French, chess, ICT, art and sewing. This school cherishes the individuality of each child and aims that they become confident and independent life-long learners.
