General information

Background: Farnborough Primary School was founded in 1872 and, until autumn 1990, occupied a site at the junction of Farnborough Common and Starts Hill. At the end of October 1990 the school moved to new purpose-built accommodation on a four-acre site in Farnborough Hill. Its position in the heart of the village reflects the tradition of the community school. Within the new premises the seven classrooms are ranged around a central hall fitted with modern physical education apparatus. All classrooms and shared learning areas are equipped for practical work and science, and there is a network system for information technology linking all rooms. Situated in a quiet, leafy environment, the outside facilities comprise playing fields, an extensive playground, a pond and woodland. It is a community primary school administered by the London Borough of Bromley Education Department, taking boys and girls from the age of five to 11 years. These are divided into seven classes, three infant and four junior, taught as mixed ability groups. Music plays a very valuable part in the life of the school. Children are encouraged to participate in the wide variety of musical activities, which are on offer such as recorders, instrumental tuition, choir and orchestra. The school provides a wide range of out-of- school activities and clubs which include infant activity club, nature club, geology club, stamp club, library, story club, chess club, astronomy club, dance club, swimming classes and football, cricket and netball coaching/matches. The school has established a caring community, which children can join with ease, live in with confidence and learn with satisfaction. .
