General information

Background: Hillside Primary was created by the amalgamation of Ramsden Infant and Junior Schools. The new school officially opened in January 1999. It is situated in a residential area of Orpington on the edge of London's Green Belt. Recent alterations have provided a new internal corridor linking the two former schools, one unified entrance, enlarged adminstrative accommodation, a refurbished library and an ICT suite. The grounds offer a football pitch, cricket pitch and running track, as well as a conservation area which contains a pond, and a variety of trees and shrubs. All National Curriculum subjects are taught plus French in Years 5 and 6 and Latin in Years 3 and 4. A specialist physical education teacher takes all PE classes. Extra-curricular activities include football, netball, cricket, athletics, chess, orchestra, instrumental lessons, 'keep-fit', dance, homework and cookery. A special opportunity unit for children with moderate learning difficulties is attached to the main school. At harvest time, support is given to charities working in India and Turkey. Hillside has links with the local British Legion and South Bank University, and a local minister is involved in school assemblies. .
