General information

Background: Founded as a convent school in 1886, Holy Trinity made the transition to lay leadership in 1994. It is housed in Freelands, a mansion purched in 1886, with the prep school occuping modern, purpose-built accommodation. The school is set in 15 acres of grounds and gardens, 'a haven in the heart of Bromley' close to London amenities yet with the benefit of a rural atmosphere. Its extensive grounds afford netball and hockey pitches, tennis courts and a summer swimming pool. Facilities include science labs, food technology area/kitchens, and a design technology lab. Drama enriches the curriculum, as does French, which is taught from nursery age. There is also 'excellent' information technology provision and music, PE, drama and food technology are taught by specialist teachers. Music is an 'integral' part of school life and the junior choir recently sang in Notre Dame Cathedral. Year 6 pupils stage an 'excellent' drama production which this year was Ants' Hillvania. Ballet is taught to younger children. Netball, athletics, rounders, hockey, swimming (juniors only), tennis and gymnastics are all offered. The Year 6 team won the district netball tournament and the school came second in the Bromley Ski Championships in 2001. Year 6 spend a week at an outdoor pursuits centre. Speakers visit the school and visits are arranged to museums and other places of educational value. Charity fundraising takes place throughout the year at events such as carol singing at the local shopping centre. Although not selective, girls seeking entry for the few places available from the age of seven are required to spend a taster day at school and sit assessments in mathematics and English.
Approach to discipline: 'As a member of the worldwide Trinitarian community, the college is marked by love, respect for each other and an understanding of essential human dignity. central to our belief is that each person is uniquely gifted by God. We welcome girls from different faith groups wanting to share our ecumenical view. Pupils are valued as individuals and are taught by example and within an acceptable code of conduct to understand and appreciate a sense of self-worth, and thereby to recognise the worth of others, to respect individuals and their property and to be tolerant, responsible members of society.'
Uniform: Winter: blue/grey pinafore dress, blouse, tie, blue/grey wool coat, velour hat. Summer: Blue dress, blazer, straw boater. 'Strict uniform requirement.'.
Special needs: Support is offered to pupils with dyslexia problems.
Inspection: February 2005: 'Holy Trinity College provides a secure and spiritual environment where pupils experience the practical reality of faith and develop both care and concern for all. Committed staff provide good teaching, enabling pupils of a wide range of abilities to achieve good standards throughout the school. Very good links between school and parents, the high quality of pastoral care and the very good relationship which pupils enjoy with staff and other pupils alike enable pupils to grow into confident young people. Although provision for pupils with special needs is very good in the prep school, it is not yet satisfactory in the senior school. The library in the senior school is unsatisfactory and development planning is not linked clearly enough to key overall objectives.'
