General information

Background: Oak Lodge was founded in 1954 and a #2 million extension was opened by HRH Princess Alexandra in September 1994. The 'very large' school is over-subscribed, with around two applications for every place. An 'attractive' working environment benefits from 'wonderful' facilities, including a 'well-stocked' library. Emphasis is placed on the traditional curriculum and all national curriculum subjects are taught 'to a strict timetable'. More able and less able children have access to a 'wide range' of support staff. There has also been 'extensive' development of information technology throughout the school. A 'full range' of musical tuition is offered, as well as a large school band and choir and annual musical drama productions. A 'wide range' of sports is available both during and after the school day and specialist coaches assist teaching staff. A 'great deal of success' has been achieved in sports. Other extra curricular activities include chess, cross-country, dance, drama, needlework and trampoline. The school tries to serve the educational needs of the local community. Links include regular contact with two local churches, local businesses, old people's homes, many charities, safety officers, the library and swimming pool. Visiting artists come in to support the art curriculum. 'Wonderful support' is given by governors and parents and the school challenges itself to be 'the best primary school in Britain'.
