General information

Headteacher: S V Adams, appointed in November 1997.

Staff: 15 (men 1, women 14).

Background: Situated in attractive playing fields and grounds owned by same family for more than 60 years; wide and varied academic and sporting curriculum. Has information communications and technology suite, with permanent high-speed broadband internet connection. French taught in addition to national curriculum subjects. Charity fundraising plays important part in school life; two Year 6 pupils appointed as charity monitors each year. Extra-curricular activities include ballet, tap-dancing, disco-dancing and sports club; pupils also able to learn speech and drama, clarinet, flute, music theory, piano, recorder, solo singing, trumpet and violin. Football, netball, athletics, cross-country and hockey; sports courses held during half-term and school holidays. Has often won Kentish Times Award for obtaining the highest number of honours marks in Beckenham Festival of Music and Speech and Drama. Newly-built studio for music and drama. Before-school care, from 8am; after-school care, until 5.30pm. Over-subscribed, with 1.6 applications per place. Ethos: 'To produce happy, secure, caring children who have been given every opportunity to fulfil their academic potential, to develop their creative skills and to continue into secondary education with a lasting enthusiasm for learning.' .

Approach to discipline: 'Our expectations are that everyone should respect others and treat peers and staff with kindness and consideration. To this end, copies of the school rules are available on request and many of our assemblies and discussions are related to issues of respect, thoughtfulness, care and consideration for others.'

Uniform: Brown-and-gold blazer, brown tunic (girls), white shirt, tie, grey shorts (Year 5, boys), grey trousers (Year 6, boys). 'Strictly enforced'.

Special needs: Specialist teacher comes into school to give lessons, paid for by parents, to pupils with dyslexia; small groups of children given special lessons during school time.

Inspection: June 2004: ?Pupils reach good standards in relation to their ability and their attainment is above that of broadly equivalent maintained schools. They make very good progress in their personal development and very good contribution to the life of the school. The close co-operative working of staff is a key element in the high quality of education offered to all pupils. The school has few weak features.?.
