General information

Background: Founded in 1598 by Sir Henry Lee the school has occupied the present site near the centre of Aylesbury since 1907. Original buildings are augmented by a range of modern facilities, including computer centre, library, sixth-form centre and, more recently, new design and art centre, and mathematics block. School facilities include an indoor swimming pool, four squash courts and a new sports hall built in 2003; new drama studio in 2006. The school also enjoys strong links with business. Extra-curricular activities particularly strong, including music, with jazz band frequent finalist at National Music for Youth Festival, public-speaking, chess, Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme, regular exchanges, sports tours and expeditions. Specialist technology college and language college status. Over-subscribed, with three applications per place. Artsmark (2001); Sportsmark; Sportsmark Gold; Investor in People status (2001); DfES achievement award (2002, 2003).
